James Gillies

Are You Afraid of Audiobooks?

Think they're too costly or that readers don’t care? Would love to have an audiobook but don’t know where to start? Got audiobooks in place but don't know how to market? In this session chaired by Carissa Andrews, an audiobook producer and narrator outline the advantages of audiobook publishing for authors, offer a primer on how to get started, and discuss the AI elephant in the recording room.

James Gillies

Voice Actor/Audiobook Narrator

James is a prolific voice actor and has narrated and produced close to two hundred books from his own studio since 2014. He trained at the Royal Scottish Conservatoire and Glasgow University and subsequently taught Drama and Theatre Studies while simultaneously working as a voice actor on radio and TV across the UK. In 1991 he was recruited by the BBC and later Sky, appearing on TV and radio until early 2013, when he went freelance, establishing his own company, BowFiddleRock. He has since recorded ads for television, radio and on-line, voiced multiple corporate training videos and e-learning courses for some of the world’s largest companies and NGOs, and voiced numerous characters in online games. Just prior to lockdown, James was invited to join in the creation of Raconteurs Audio, the UK based production company formed by some of the most prolific and successful narrators in the country, and is currently its Chair.
